Governor Roles and Committee Structure

We meet as a Local Governing Body twice each term. Each of us sits on a number of subcommittees which meet regularly throughout each term to oversee the governance of specific areas of school life. The Head Teacher, Nikki Peters, sits on all subcommittees. As individual Governors we take on additional roles in respect of safeguarding, health and safety, healthy schools, numeracy, literacy, inclusion, religious education, ICT, governor development, preschool and extended services.

Governors act as supportive critical friends of the school. It is our role to know the school’s strengths and areas for development, and to guide the Leadership to strengthen and maintain strong foundations for the children who attend.

We have different types of Governor who have equal status, working closely with the Headteacher, Local Authority and Diocese. Six Foundation Governors are appointed by the Bishop (one is our Parish Priest). They are joined by two Parent Governors who are elected by St Teresa’s parents, and one Staff Governor elected by St Teresa’s staff.

Our Governors are volunteers who offer their time and expertise free of charge. They represent different groups within the community and offer expertise from numerous professional backgrounds. Governors are required to attend all Board meetings which are held twice each term, and to join at least one committee. We have three main committees that meet at least once a term:

  •          Curriculum & Standards
  •          Resources
  •          Admissions
